San Jose House
Can a small square lot and a garage projecting at you still allow for an interesting modern shape? We introduced a split, both on the surface, spatially, with the finishes and then internally where the central stair coils its way up. Over the dining room, a floating dropped ceiling introduces the negative of what's typically done.
The flat roof over the garage offered the opportunity for a terrace, secretly accessible through a closet.
This small compact volume, although with an unusual shape compared to the the nondescript residences adjacent to it, still respects and has a dialog with the volumes, the traditional looking roofs around it.
